The world famous Teatro alla Scala recently underwent significant restoration and renovation works. Work began in January 2002 and lasted for three seasons. The municipal council of the city of Milan chose Mario Botta’s architectural project and Elisabetta Fabbri’s restoration and conservation project, while the stage machinery and general coordination were managed by the engineer Franco Malgrande. In addition to the works, it was decided to reopen the La Scala Theatre Museum with a new design by Luigi Pizzi. The inauguration of the renovated La Scala took place on the 7 December 2004 with a performance of Europa riconosciuta by Antonio Salieri, directed by Riccardo Muti.

In addition to designing, producing and providing the front of house seating, TMA also renovated the seats of the boxes and the gallery. A screen is fitted onto the rear of the seats in the stalls providing simultaneous translation of opera lyrics into nine languages.

TMA provided the curtain, inspired by the historic curtain that has been moved to the Arcimboldi theatre, and also designed all the technical and service areas, the dressing rooms and the dance rehearsal rooms. Furthermore, TMA was responsible for the renovation of the seats and furniture of the Theatre Museum.
